Darjeeling is a town in West Bengal, India. This town in Lesser Himalayas is probably most popular because of its tea. The tea plantations here are extensive and tea growers develop hybrid black tea using fermentation techniques that are unmatched. The distinctive Darjeeling tea has international recognition and remains top in the list of popular world black teas. There are so many tea varieties here and I never miss out on enjoying them when spending some time in the town. The tea estates definitely make part of the cuisine, culture and craft of the town.
Away from the tea, I found out there is a lot more to Darjeeling. Its cultural diversity is amazing and there are also so many attractions to enjoy, including botanical gardens, zoo, monasteries and valley passenger ropeway cable car. I find it so easy to enjoy the town, whether I am walking through the beautiful tea estates or exploring the markets and the villages. The landmarks worth checking out here include Bethany School, Ava Art Gallery, Batista Tea Estate, Ama Devu Tea Bagan and Bardawan Palace. The churches and mansion some in colonial architecture add to the beauty of the town.
The cottages
The cottages are some of my favorite holiday accommodation facilities and the great thing about Darjeeling is that it has its cottages located near landmarks and beautiful natural surroundings. This way, I always have an easy time finding a cottage that I am bound to enjoy and one that is most convenient depending on the kind of vacation I am after here. The cottages here are spread generously in locations like Haridas Hatta, Darjeeling Road, Chowrasta, Ghoom and Gandhi Road. Most are modern properties with all amenities any visitor would ask for. The sitting areas, bedrooms and bathrooms are cozy and absolutely stunning; I always find myself looking forward to enjoying my beautiful cottage especially after a day filled with lots of activities and tours around the town.
Near Darjeeling there is Kalimpong. This town also has a multitude of beautiful cottages to make any holiday most rewarding. Apart from the cottages waiting to offer the best views of the town, Kalimpong has an amazing climate, natural beauty and has horticulture as part of its backbone. The flower market here is quite impressive with an array of orchids. The nurseries here grow flower bulbs, rhizomes and tubers for export, contributing greatly to the economy of the country. I love the beauty of the town and the fact that I can still enjoy the comfort of a cottage even when I am here for a short time. Its proximity to Darjeeling makes it possible for me to enjoy the best of both towns; I just plan my vacation such that I make time to enjoy all things I find interesting and are in line with the kind of vacation I am after.
With so many cottage options in both Darjeeling and Kalimpong, I never have to worry about crowded hotels especially during peak seasons.
Cottages in Darjeeling are designed to offer the best spaces for visitors. The beautiful interiors match the attractive exteriors. The same is the case with cottages in Kalimpong, which is a stone thrown away from Darjeeling.
