Alleppey is a situated in Kerala state south India and it is a quaint and humble town. It is also called Alappuzha. This is a city that caught my eye because of the natural beauty. There are beautiful lagoons, countless canals, pristine beaches and backwaters.

The backwaters are very popular and there are so many travelers who come to this area all through the year to see them.
One of the things that I totally enjoyed is Nehru Trophy Alleppey Snake Boat Race, the annual boat race. It is held in august. Plan a visit during this time of year so as to witness it firsthand. I got the amazing chance to join in, in the festivities and to experience a houseboat vacation.
Alleppey is well connected to other areas and you can choose to travel by air, road or rail. I found that the places you stay at determine to a great extent how well you will enjoy your stay here. When you are comfortable, then it becomes very easy to take in the serenity of the area and a great time with the family. There are different rentals that you can choose from when touring this area.
Cottages in Alleppey
I really enjoyed staying in a cottage while in Alleppey. Here, the Ayurveda and SPA treatment are taken to a whole different level. The environment was blissful and the stunning serenity totally amazed me. I chose a cottage near the backwaters. This is an experience like no other.
Staying in a cottage in Alleppey, I was able to explore the region far and wide. There were some points of interest that caught my fancy. The old temples, the religious places, the paddy fields and beaches made the stay much more that I would have expected. This is where memories are made.
The flora and fauna in the Alleppey are vast. This makes the cuisine a total delicacy and very authentic as I discovered. The seafood like prawns and shrimps are a big deal in the area and I had to try them out. I got a chance to enjoy the south Indian food too. The spice plantations and markets with all sorts of spices is a must see. I was able to buy souvenirs at the Alappuzha Zakariya Market. Also worth a visit is Sarada shopping complex and the Chandra Babu shopping complex.
Houseboats
I also found a chance to sample a houseboat and what it is all about in Alleppey. There is nothing more fulfilling than a chance to cruise the Kerala backwaters using a houseboat. The scenic lakes as well as lagoons can be explored very easily using houseboats. There are different cruises that you can choose from. There are the day cruise and the overnight one. Both cruises come with their charm.
I found that there are over 20 houseboats available in Alleppey. You simply choose the size of a houseboat that is most ideal for your needs. You can settle for single bedroom up to six bedroom houseboats. I thought this was a great thing since it is quite easy to select the one that is most fulfilling depending on the number of people you are travelling with.
Apart from the accommodation choice, make sure you experience the Kerala Ayurvedic massage while in Alleppey.
Cottages in Alleppey allow you to have privacy while taking in some of the most scenic places on earth. Houseboats in Alleppey give you a chance to truly experience the migratory birds, cool breeze and all the paddy fields.
