Coorg is without doubt one of the most popular tourist destinations of Karnataka India. The tropical weather, waterfalls and beautiful coffee plantations are just some of the things that meet you when you land here.
I love visiting this region when I am in need of a relaxed vacation and whether I am here for a few days or a few weeks, Coorg never disappoints. Madikeri is located in Coorg and makes one of my favorite spots of the region. Madikeri is a hill station town in Karnataka state, India. Also known as Mercara, it is the headquarters of the district of Kodagu (also called Coorg).
I guess Madikeri makes the icing on the cake for Coorg. It boasts stunning landscapes, breathtaking plantations, rolling hills and lush green valleys, all of which makes relaxing seamless. It of course has attractions I never miss out on including:

  • Raja Seat which is a small square that is a viewing spot made up of four pillars that are bridged by arches. The surroundings here complete the beauty of the spot. The Rajas loved this place for their recreation which is why it is associated with them. I love the commanding view of valleys and cliffs from here.
  • Madikeri Fort is another one of my favorites. It dates back in the 17th century and featured a palace in its interiors. It has ever since gone through various rebuilds and renovations, but the rich history behind the fort is still very much enjoyable. I particularly find the real sized elephants at the entrance on the northeast corner. The temple Kote Ganapath is also worth mentioning when talking about this fort. Other attractions that I never miss out on are St. Mark's Church, Abbey Falls and the Omkareshwar Temple.
  • Madikeri also boasts a number of wildlife sanctuaries which include Dubare Reserve Forest & Elephant Camp and the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary. Golden Temple, Iruppu Falls and Brahmagiri Hill also take prominence here when it comes to the tourist attractions on Madikeri.
Accommodation is in plenty with Homestays taking the day. The Homestays bring a sense of comfort and belonging, making every moment enjoyable I particularly love the cottages here as they are nestled in the best locations that make it possible for me to feel connected with nature. Most of the cottages offer amazing natural views of Madikeri; if relaxing and reflecting on yourself is what you like to enjoy during the holidays, then the cottages in Madikeri are the facilities to go for. Apart from being located in the best spots of the town, the cottages offer high class amenities and I just love the fresh traditional foods from the gardens around the town.
I really can't talk about cottages in Madikeri without mentioning Misty Villa Estate Stay, Pond Cottage and Shettys Inn. They make some of the best holiday cottages offering amazing views and amenities to make you feel home, even though you may be miles away from home. To enjoy true Indian hospitality I always choose the top cottages and try a different one every time I am here for the holidays.
The top cottages in Coorg are mostly the best cottages in Madikeri. Choose a cottage in a surrounding that you just will love for the holidays and you will never forget your stay in the beautiful town that is Madikeri.
